Privacy notice

Custom statistics are on by default to study recasting, interface language and reading opens. This is not a record of your affirmative consent. You can turn them off here at any time without affecting casting or reading.

What is recorded

What do we collect?

  • Primary hexagram number (1–64) and interface language at casting
  • Casting, recasting, available text editions and their language, and whether they are opened
  • Server receipt time for retention and linking events within one cast
  • A random identifier per cast and a stable identifier for each text edition

A casting ID links only that casting’s text and line-text availability and openings, transformed-hexagram presence and opening, and recasting. Each item counts once per casting and language, without cross-casting tracking. Hexagram browsing and sharing are excluded from casting reading rates. A public document’s first visibility counts separately as a site opening. Its independent random ID stays only in browser memory on the client, then is transmitted and stored on the server with an hourly timestamp; queries cover the latest 365 days. It is not linked to castings or accounts; URLs, queries and referrers are not collected. Prefetching, same-document navigation and private pages do not count as new openings. Time charts compare openings and completed castings, not unique visitors, duration or conversion.

We also record the number of moving lines per cast (zero to six), whether results in each language actually offer the Kaobian switch, and whether it is enabled at least once, including an enabled preference retained during this visit. Reading languages are counted separately: switching languages within one cast may count in each language, but these are not counts of people. Enabling indicates the switch state, not that commentaries or line texts were read; repeated enabling within one cast and language counts once. Unrecorded historical moving-line counts remain unknown, and casts that did not offer the switch are not added to the activation-rate denominator.

Not in the dataset

What do we not collect?

Custom analytics does not store names, email, birthdays, accounts, contacts, questions, IP addresses, precise locations, fingerprints or user-agent strings. There is no identifier across devices or casts. No question is requested. Owner authentication is separate from usage analytics.

De-identification

Anonymity and its limits

Cast identifiers are not linked to accounts or reused for the next cast. They do link interactions within a cast, so absolute anonymity is not promised. Hosting and network services may process routine operational and security logs separately from our analytics tables. If you choose the owner sign-in, the server uses the account identifier and email supplied by the platform for access control; these are not written to casting statistics.

Use and access

How is the data used?

Only the owner sees aggregates. Data is not sold or used for advertising or personal profiles. Queries include casts from the last 365 days; expired records are cleaned on the next analytics write or query, so physical deletion may be delayed during inactivity. Language means interface choice, not nationality or native language. Counts are casts, not unique people.

Research, articles or public reports would use only aggregates that cannot reasonably identify people, with a separate assessment of research ethics and informed consent. No IRB approval or other certification is claimed. This notice is not ethics review. Recasting and opening rates are associations, not evidence of dissatisfaction, confusion, rejection or causation.

Your choice

Do you want to take part in anonymous analytics?

You can disable or re-enable statistics at any time. Disabling stops future transmissions but cannot withdraw records already sent. Without a personal lookup, records cannot be located and deleted by person. Re-enabling applies only to subsequent eligible events and does not backfill earlier castings. We respect Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control. Older records without language data are assigned to Chinese at the site owner’s direction and marked as historical; this is not a measured language choice.

Language, text size and statistics preferences stay in this browser, without cross-device identification. An earlier opt-out remains off; inaccessible preference storage disables statistics. Default-on is not informed research consent; research needs separate assessment.

To restore Back navigation, this tab’s sessionStorage temporarily retains up to 32 internal page paths, valid languages, random tab/entry codes, and up to 32 page-linked casting and reading snapshots. A snapshot contains the primary and transformed hexagram numbers, six line values, the Kaobian switch, expanded reading sections, and scroll position. It contains neither a divinatory question nor an analytics casting identifier. Arbitrary URL parameters and anchors are not saved, and these data are not sent to the server. Restoring a view does not count as a new casting. Browsers may restore tab data; we do not use these codes to identify people or track across devices.
